It Was Never About The Recipes 🀯

Hello Reader, It's Yukari!

Last time, I asked: What makes you skip a recipe fastest?

The Winner?

πŸ† All of the Above. πŸ˜‚

Too many ingredients. πŸ“

Too many steps. πŸͺœ

Too much time. ⏲️

Too many dishes. 🧼

Sound familiar? Yep, I get it.

Your replies got Aric and me talking again, and we realized something...kinda big.

Nobody Here Has A Recipe Problem! 🀯

You have Google. (and probably use an AI by now...)

You have Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook Groups.

You probably have 47 recipes saved on your phone that you haven't made yet, or you've completely forgotten about them. (which happens many times with Aric and me as well...πŸ˜…)

The hard part isn't finding a recipe, reading it, and following it.

The hard part IS 6:00 pm on a Tuesday! πŸ˜«β€‹

You're tired.

The fridge has some "random ingredients" that make you feel like you're in the middle of the TV show, "Chopped."

The onion in the fridge won't tell you what it can do for the "dinner" you need in the next 30 minutes.

I'm so with you.

Remember when I had to cook for 10 people and failed miserably? (Read this archived email newsletter!)

A Lesson I Learned from One Gyoza Making Night

A few weeks ago, our dear friend texted me to ask if we could get together because she wanted to learn how to make Gyoza (Japanese dumplings) after seeing one of our Shorts on YouTube.

It was just the two of us, catching up over glasses of wine, and we made gyoza from scratch.

She told me she had so much fun, and guess what?

She proudly posted on her Instagram that she made a batch of gyoza all by herself! πŸ₯³

That made me so happy.

Something many people thought was complicated to make turned into a fun, memorable moment together.

What she needed wasn't a better recipe.

She needed a fun learning experience with a company. 🧑

What's Missing Isn't Information

Every household has a cookbook, a recipe card, or a saved recipe on the phone.

When I cook, even slightly complicated things feel easy, because someone confident is right there: A professional chef, Aric.

That's what I have while I'm still learning.

I jokingly, but half admire, call him "the walking cookbook." 😊

Most people struggle with the questions nobody can answer when they cook.

"Why does mixing abc make xyz?" or cooking gadgets and methods you're too embarrassed to ask about.

That gap is what we've been quietly building something to fix.

It's more about having us "with YOU" on the day of cooking. πŸ₯³

I'll share the whole thing in our next newsletter, so stay tuned!

But I'm curious...🧐

Hello Reader, It's Yukari! Last week I was going to make pasta.I had the whole thing pictured. Cherry tomatoes, garlic, butter, a little chicken, and chicken stock. Roasted cauliflower on the side. Then I looked at the pantry shelves..............................................No pasta. 😭 Why does it happen to me all the time!? We ate soba salad with Ponzu soy vinaigrette that night. And it was good. Here's what I've recently admitted to myself. This happens to me constantly. πŸ˜‚ I set out to...

Aric and Yukari on a crowded New York City subway car, heading to Harlem.

Hello Reader, It's Yukari! Last week in New York, we ate at one of the best restaurants in the world...Eight courses, Michelin star, the whole thing. And yet the meal I can't stop thinking about? A $5.00 bodega sandwich, eaten on an airport bench at midnight. Let me explain. πŸ˜„ Food, Food, Everywhere! We've been to New York several times over the years, and the city has always amazed us. But this time, it really showed us what it's about. Maybe it was summer. Maybe it was the World Cup. There...

Hello Reader, It's Yukari! Last time, we invited you to a paid cook-along. But as Aric and I were prepping, something kept bugging us. We told you the Julia Child story, how she kept her phone number public so home cooks could just call her. She didn't send an invoice first. πŸ˜„ And here we were, asking you to pay $29 before we'd ever cooked together. That's backward. If what we're really offering is confidence, timing, and someone beside you...You should get to feel that first. So here's what...
