Feeling stuck in the kitchen? Let’s change that in 3 days! 🤩

🛒 Why I Avoided Cooking After Moving to the U.S.

Hello Reader,, It's Yukari!

If you’ve been following our last couple of emails, you’ve met Terumi, the woman who showed me that cooking could be joyful, imperfect, and full of heart. 🧡

When Aric and I got married, Terumi brought over some of my favorite dishes, including that unforgettable potato salad, and filled our kitchen with love.

🛒 American Grocery Store (and My New Struggle 😫)

After I moved to the U.S., we stayed in touch the old-fashioned way—handwritten letters.

I’d write about my new life here… and she’d send back warm encouragements, plus recipes scribbled in her casual, loving way:

“Chicken about 250g. Soy sauce, maybe 1 tbsp? Sugar, a little. 1/4 tsp-ish.”

No exact measurements. No steps. Just vibes.

Which was fine… until I actually tried to cook her recipes on my own. 😅

I had no clue how to “go by feel.”

And I quickly learned that American kitchens speak a whole different language.

Ounces instead of grams.

Pints instead of milliliters.

Even ordering deli meat felt like a language test I wasn’t ready for.

I started to avoid going to the grocery store.

I avoided cooking.

And I felt like I’d lost a part of myself again.

But that’s not where this story ends.

Because soon, some small moments would completely shift how I felt about cooking again.

That part’s coming in our next newsletter. 🧡

🧑‍🍳 But for Now… Want to Try Something Simple?

We recently wrapped a mini challenge that uses the same ingredients over 3 days, without making the same boring meals on repeat.

We made:

🦃 A Ground Turkey Bowl

🌮 Tacos

🍝 Pasta “ragu”

All with the same core ingredients!

We recorded a quick video for each dish so you can follow along (or customize your own with the Mix & Match Meal Planner!).

💌 Want to Join the Challenge?

Reply to this email with “I’m in!” and I’ll send you:

🧑🏼‍🍳 Day 1 of the challenge

🎯 Simple swaps for your own ingredients

🥗 If you’re vegetarian/vegan, reply “I’m in! Plant-based” and I’ll send you an alt version!

You’ll get one email per day for 3 days, easy, doable, and super fun.

It’s the heart of what Terumi taught me:

Cooking doesn’t have to be perfect.

It just has to come from you.

Reply with “I’m in!” And let’s cook something delicious together! 🥳

Thank you for being the Kitchen and for helping us build this cozy little corner of the internet. 🧡

With flavor & friendship,

Aric & Yukari
